Baghdadi fled Iraq in ‘yellow taxi’ to avoid suspicion: Sources
Baghdad: Islamic State chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has reportedly fled from Iraq to Syria in a yellow taxi to keep away from drawing suspicion.
An intelligence supply claimed the IS chief was hiding in Rawa, northwestern Iraq, when troops entered Qaim some 50 miles away close to the Syrian border, the Day by day Mail reported.
Al-Baghdadi felt his presence in Rawa “threatened his life”, so he scampered over the border to Deir ez-Zor in a automobile synonymous with the western world of New York Metropolis.
The supply was quoted by the Iraqi Information as saying, “After Iraqi troops invaded Qaim, Baghdadi was conscious that his presence in Rawa threatens his life. In a yellow taxi, Baghdadi fled Iraq and headed to Syria. He’s believed to have settled in Deir ez-Zor.”
“The IS chief insisted on taking a yellow cab so as to not be a supply for doubts. He urged the remaining IS fighters in Qaim to hold on combating the Iraqi troops, however the supply stated they `let him down and escaped of their private automobiles to Syria.”
The IS launched a brand new audio recording in September purporting to be of Al-Baghdadi. The 46-minute audio recording was revealed by the Al-Furqan information organisation, which is affiliated with the IS, and got here after Russia claimed to have killed Baghdadi in an airstrike on Raqqa in June.
The earlier time Baghdadi was heard on tape was again in November 2016 because the battle for Mosul was beginning, wherein he urged followers to struggle the “unbelievers” and “make their blood move as rivers”.
US-backed forces subsequently drove the IS out of Mosul, it`s final stronghold in Iraq and town from which Baghdadi declared his Caliphate in 2014.
Allied forces have since surrounded Raqqa, in Syria, which acted because the IS`s de-facto capital and was one other potential hiding spot for Baghdadi.
Officers then believed he was probably hiding someplace within the sparsely populated desert between these two cities, predicting it may take years to find him.
