KUWAIT CITY: Iraq obtained pledges on Wednesday totalling $30 billion at a global convention for reconstruction of the war-torn nation, the host Kuwait introduced.

“The dedication of the worldwide group on the convention was clear,” stated Kuwaiti International Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled Al-Sabah, including that 76 nations, quite a few worldwide funds and world organisations had made pledges.

Baghdad says it wants practically $90 billion to rebuild after a three-year battle with the Islamic State group that devastated houses, faculties, hospitals and financial infrastructure.

“We had been hoping for extra,” Iraqi International Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari informed AFP.
